Visiting Neighbors

VN’s professional staff carefully matches volunteers with seniors to spend a few hours each week enjoying each other’s company and learning from one another. Every match is unique as seniors and volunteers share memories and conver- sation, listen to music or watch a favorite movie. At VN, every individual is special, and we believe that every match is the start of a new relation- ship that enriches the lives of both people.

Volunteers help seniors with shopping or errands, accompany them to the doctor or to other appoint- ments, provide a steady arm to lean on, as well as moral support. Many local schools participate in VN’s Intergenerational Program, where teens help seniors with errands and escort them to appointments, learning valuable job skills and life lessons, improving their self-esteem and sense of responsibility

	VN remembers birthdays and holidays with cards, gifts and special visits, letting seniors know that someone cares.
	During the holidays, when loneliness can be over-whelming, VN’s volunteer elves visit seniors to share the spirit of the season.

VN’s professional staff provides information to seniors, family members and neighbors about services for the frail elderly, valuable help for those not familiar with available programs and services.

Visiting Neighbors provides special services for clients including in-home safety checks to help eliminate hazards, use of a large-print reader and help reading mail for visually impaired seniors, and advocacy to help seniors obtain needed services.
