Visiting Neighbors provides opportunities for frail seniors to socialize in a safe, supportive environment. These opportunities include discussion groups and occasional outings to nearby destinations.
We also have get-togethers for our dedicated volunteers, providing a chance for them to meet other caring people, and share their experiences.
We celebrate our seniors' birthdays, Valentine's Day and other special occasions with handmade cards to remind our seniors they haven't been forgotten. Special milestone birthdays are marked with a visit from our staff and volunteers.
Occasionally, we take clients on day trips to nearby destinations, and provide a diversion for seniors who otherwise might not have the ability to leave their neighborhood to enjoy scenic attractions and good company. Recent visits have included the Bronx Botanical Gardens, the New York Aquarium, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Sagamore Hill.
If you would like to join us on an outing, you must be a Visiting Neighbors' client or a participant in one of our programs. If you would like to sponsor an outing, or to learn about planned activities, please contact us.
Our programs and services are funded by a combination of individual donations, community and corporate support, grants form corporations and government funding.
This purposeful blend of support enables us to respond to needs of seniors with greater flexibility than those programs that rely on a single funder, but it also makes de the job of raising enough money to improve and expand our programs a greater challenge.
